With over 16 years of experience in Psychotherapy, I work with clients from a humanistic approach; meeting the client where they are and helping them to be the best they can be. I have worked in private and statutory facilities across the UK and abroad, including a psychiatric hospital and a luxury well-being clinic in Southern Spain. I work with clients online and in person, from all sides of the globe, which has given me a deep understanding of mental health and well-being in conjunction with cultural characteristics.

Before becoming a Therapist, I trained in Education and then moved into working in the Charity sector. Having grown up in Cornwall, I moved to London in 2006 to pursue higher education, where I acquired a degree in Media & Cultural Studies and proceeded to work in various roles, until eventually finding my feet when I joined the Voluntary Sector. I eventually entered into the Substance Misuse Treatment field, where I became a qualified Motivational Interviewing Practitioner and an Advanced Group Facilitator, and in 2013 gained an NVQ3 in Health & Social Care. I have recently completed a foundation course in Counselling & Psychotherapy and I am looking forward to continuing my professional development.

What I do

As a Drug & Alcohol Practitioner and a Group Facilitator in community-based treatment, I have delivered over 300 Clinical Triage Assessments to complex-need, dual-diagnosis substance misuse clients. I have carried a clinical caseload of 30-40 clients at any one time, delivering 1:1 Key-working, 12-24 week holistic Care-Planning and a wide range of Psychotherapeutic Education Workshops & Support Groups. I moved up in to Treatment Management in 2018, on an Honorary Contract with Camden & Islington NHS Trust, where I became the Treatment Team Leader, managing 10 Practitioners, each delivering treatment to the above capacity.

I am an accredited Psychotherapist with over 15years’ experience in statutory, private and NHS psychotherapy provision. I was a Senior Psychotherapist for a specialist trauma service within King’s College Hospital London, for over 11yrs, and am now in a specialist role at a complex-post-traumatic-stress service for an NHS mental health trust; prior to this I worked in the addictions field. I hold graduate and post-graduate qualifications in Psychotherapy, EMDR parts 1&2, have an additional PG Dip. in providing Online Psychotherapy and will be completing my Masters in Existential Psychotherapy in 2020.

What I do

I provide Clinical Supervision within the NHS and to external therapists. I have lectured on a National Training Program for Forensic Medicine, as well as regularly teaching to medical students, around trauma and sexual violence. I have been part of a number of Research Teams within the NHS, presenting research at International Conferences regarding trauma and its treatment. I have dedicated much of my career to this speciality and I am always adapting my clinical practice and investigating new theory, to employ the most up-to-date ways of working with trauma.

Who I am

I took my degree in Psychology in the 1960s and qualified as a Doctor of Medicine in 1972. I became a Consultant Psychiatrist in the early 1980s and have worked as such since then. I am registered as a specialist in the UK and Ireland, in both adult and child & adolescent psychiatry, and I have worked as a Consultant in a wide range of clinical settings, including general adult psychiatry, addiction treatment, psychotherapy, mental health rehabilitation, children’s services and adolescent services.

What I do

Since the early 1990s I have been running a service supporting GPs and hospital Doctors with occupational health interventions and psychotherapy, given my in-depth understanding of these professions. Over the last 10 years I have taken a special interest in the clinical work developing in the area of trauma-related illness, and have developed strategies to effectively deliver this treatment to Doctors and other Medical Professionals who are working in the current situation of the COVID pandemic. I provide psychiatric consultancy to Azuraminds so that they can ensure the best care for those individuals with more complex mental health issues.

I am currently a Lead Practitioner at a Drug & Alcohol Recovery Service in the North of England and I have over 11 years’ experience working in clinical settings of the substance misuse sector. Following my Psychology degree, I have spent the last 8 years gaining clinical experience in mental health, criminal justice and substance misuse settings. Being a child from the Windrush generation, I have experienced racism in addition to sexual discrimination, and due to my personal experience of dyslexia, I am acutely aware of neurodiversity stigma. Therefore, I am an avid promoter of co-production in social care, which I ensure is evident in the way that I work, so that clients feel included in the decisions that will empower their lives.

I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse and have worked within Crisis Pathway teams, shared my research with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and currently lecture at the University of Suffolk. Prior to undertaking my studies, I worked in the criminal justice system, supporting service users struggling with addiction and offending behaviours, which often stemmed from historical trauma and the re-traumatisation of homelessness and prison. I believe in peoples’ ability to overcome against all odds and that as a mental health practitioner, a fundamental part of my role is to offer therapeutic support and strong advocacy in order to help individuals rediscover their power.

What I do

I practice in a genuine, human way and my strengths lie in my ability to connect with people at times of acute distress and discomfort. I do not view individuals through the prism of any formal diagnosis and am interested in each person’s story.

My journey into therapy started when life-events caused me to take a close look at certain changes that I needed to make. In September 1999, through reflecting on this and beginning to understand myself better, I was led to become an Integrative Therapy Practitioner. I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have been BACP accredited since 2005. I became a qualified Life Coach in 2004 and later whilst working at the Priory Hospital, I completed an intensive course in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). This inspired me to develop and lead the DBT Programme, which is currently running with great results, and I have worked with both residential inpatients and community outpatients, in all the areas above.

What I Do

I have over 10 years of clinical experience, working in settings within the Criminal Justice System, particularly specialising in supporting women in prison and working with trauma across a very broad spectrum, including issues such as, childhood abuse, domestic violence, substance misuse, and bereavement. What I do

I am versed in many counselling and psychotherapy approaches taken to help people in reclaiming their lives. The speciality that won me the recognition that led on to me winning the CSJ award is my interest in existential perspectives to human dilemmas. I chose to go self-employed in 2016 to fulfil my ambition in building on my qualifications; Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling; BA Hons in Counselling and a Post Grad Cert in Clinical Supervision by Studying for a Doctorate in Existential Psychotherapy. I am currently in my third (calendar) year of a Doctorate in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling and preparing my research proposal for my PAP VIVA.

My therapeutic healing from a mental health crisis began over 30 years ago and this process taught me the value of having a safe space to talk about one’s problems without judgement. Ten years ago, I realised my dream of studying Therapeutic Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, having previously managed a successful catering business, whilst also mentoring people affected by mental health, addictions and autistic spectrum disorders.
I have been working as a Therapist since 2012 and spent four years as the CBT Practitioner of an exclusive residential treatment centre, delivering programmes of group and individual CBT, psychoeducation, mindfulness and family workshops.

Who I am

As a humanistic counsellor, I believe gentle exploration of the mind and a sensitive understanding of what our body may be telling us, can offer answers to our well-being. I came to train in counselling after a profound change in my life supported by a rich therapeutic relationship. As I redeveloped my personality, I left a successful career in journalism and continued the long, deep work of understanding myself in order that I could be useful to others. I have been working in community counselling organisations and the NHS for the last two years. I am due to qualify this summer as an integrative humanistic counsellor from the BACP-approved Metanoia Institute.

What I do

As an integrative therapist, I draw from three counselling styles – person-centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis, as well as life experience. I have a flexible, empathic and sometimes playful approach, and use a range of techniques from these modalities, depending on the client’s needs. I work with trauma, relational problems, self-esteem, anger, work stress, depression and anxiety. I have a particular interest in the relational patterns of attachment and in exploring body process to understand exactly what may be seeking attention.

Who I am

I am a qualified Person-Centered Counsellor specialising in bereavement, but my working background is in Customer Services, where I worked for over thirty years. Having a strong interest in Psychology and Well-being led me to train as a Counsellor and had my placement as a Bereavement Counsellor at Saint Frances Hospice, where I worked with people who had experienced trauma and loss, through the death of someone close to them. As well as having my own private practice, I still volunteer at the Hospice to further develop my specialism in this area.

Bereavement Counselling is a specialist type of counselling that focuses on the loss of something in your life. No loss is too big or too small, as any type of loss can sometimes lead to significant and long-lasting problems. My clinical work covers loss in its broadest sense, such as loss of a loved one, a pet, job, friendship, relationship, home, or one’s physical health, and today this also includes the loss of freedom due to COVID. I have extensive experience of working with various medical conditions, including; Respiratory, Progressive and Non-Progressive Neurological, Renal, Amputee and Stroke. I have learnt in practice that; mental and physical health never exist independently; their deficits are intertwined and ever co-dependant, so my objective is to increase independence and satisfaction for my patients, in all areas of their lives.

What I do

I provide practical support to empower people to facilitate their own recovery; overcoming barriers to unlocking their potential. Guided by the OT process and standardised assessment and outcome measures, I start with a holistic interview. What follows is a main impairment screen and functional assessment, to identify individual needs. From this we can decide on a pathway, recommendations and goals, to reduce the impact of gross motor, sensory, cognitive and mood deficits, on functional ability. A whole person approach is central to help those of all ages overcome illness, disability or injury preventing them from doing the activities (or occupations) that matter to them.

I have gained substantial clinical experience running group therapies and 1:1 sessions with inpatients and outpatients at The Priory Group, alongside a successful private practice.
